@thomasperkins7318 When Goldwater was running for president, his promotional swag included a golden colored metal ruler, with the inscription "Goldwater, a Leader, not a Ruler". One of the problems with Trump was, he thought he was a ruler, and was too busy enjoying the perks of office, to bother leading the country.

@flipnotrab Come visit my city of Portland. As a response to complaints about police harassing 'protesters' as they burned down parts of the city, including a synagogue, the mayor told them to have a hands-off attitude towards crime, including homeless encampments on city streets and people's backyards. All the shop windows downtown are still boarded up, most businesses have folded, because who will shop in a war zone? Even the food truck owners have given up, because each day, when they try to open up, they find much of their equipment was stolen.

The CIA is only supposed to work internationally. It was the FBI that was investigating his numerous crimes. That is why he kept firing the head of that organization.

@johnpatrick1647 Any riots, where property is damage or people are hurt, are completely wrong. But, if you can't see the purpose of the riots on January 6, were to stop democracy, and therefore were worse than race riots, you're being willfully ignorant.

I can remember living in a time, when it was the Republican party that exemplified honor and patriotism, and Democrats had mottos like 'vote early, and vote often' and 'by any means necessary', and were the ones engaging in graft and gerrymandering. The epitome of a corrupt city government was once Tammany Hall, and the most corrupt state was Illinois. How times have changed.

Did that prevent the overthrow of the government? Was there an angry mob, threatening to kill you, if you paid on time? If not, no comparison.

You honestly don't think most Americans weren't distressed by the near civil war? The problem is, whenever we discuss how truly heinous and criminal, that man's behavior was, we are accused of suffering from TDS. And when officials look into his crimes, his loyal cult calls it a partisan witch hunt.

Yes, a medal for Pence. He was under intense pressure, from Trump and his coterie, to just go along with the plot. He had turncoat senators giving him bogus slates of electors, and refused them. Despite the violent mob, screaming they were going to kill him, and the gallows they erected to do so, he refused the secret service urgings, to go somewhere safe, because he feared they would not let him return to declare Biden/Harris the winners. He may have been an devoted toady, up to that point, but when it really mattered he was brave and patriotic. Imagine how bad it would have been, if he'd sent the slates of electors back to swing states. His bravery staved off a civil war.

It would have been so much easier for Pence to cave to Trump's will, than do what he did. Trump purposely incited the crowd to kill him, yet he stood firm, and confirmed that he himself had lost. It would have been so easy for him to just get in the car, as the secret service urged him to, and allow himself and his family, to be whisked to safety. And yet he stood firm. I despise evangelicals and people who avow their christian faith, as if it makes them better than the rest of us, yet truly admire his grit on that day. He deserves a medal every bit as much, as a soldier who displays similar bravery on the battlefield.

@marklasky3555 Who told you Hillary was corrupt? The super corrupt Trump was projecting again. The country would have been so much better off under Hillary. She wouldn't have antagonized all our international allies. And she wouldn't have stripped the CDC bare, and would have handled the pandemic so much better. The countries, that handled the pandemic the best, were all run by women. We could have been one of them, not the pathetic disaster we were, with over a million dead.
