A lot of gain-of-function work is done by knocking out a gene needed to infect a cell. But, it can also be negative, which is why this is always done in laboratories with extreme safeguards.

  2. Instead of "experimental pill", Blitzer should have called it a new oral antiviral. Why use such loaded terminology? Is he trying to make people resistant to using something that could save their lives? The beauty of this new oral medication, is it can be given to those infected with Covid, as soon as they test positive, outside of a hospital setting. All the monoclonal antibodies must be given IV, so can't be administered at home. Of course, with any antiviral, resistance will soon develop, which is why it might be wise to wait for the other oral antivirals in development, so they can be given in conjunction, like the AIDS cocktail.

  3. None of the "epidemics" you cite are due to infectious disease. If you cannot see the difference, you're being willfully ignorant. We've always had inoculation, then vaccine, mandates in this country, since when we were just British colonies. This is nothing new. What is new is the mass stupidity of refusing a life-saving vaccine.

  4.  @jspur22  Wrong, this evokes an immune response against a specific pathogen, so is a vaccine. Some people, who have Covid, develop a good defense, many more do not. Those who recovered from Covid, then got vaccinated, have the best immunity. Why don't you want the best for yourself?

  8. So what? There were also similar declines in Covid last year, at the same time, followed by a sharp rise in deaths two weeks after each holiday. Hopefully, there are enough people vaccinated, to prevent a sharp spike in post-holiday deaths. But, if more people were vaccinated, we wouldn't have to hope.
