  1. The only thing the California border checks for is fresh fruit, not weapons. Until we have federal gun control there is nothing to stop someone from buying a gun in a state that doesn't care about its people, and bringing it to a state with some rules about guns. California is not homogeneous. I grew up in rural California, where everyone had guns and went hunting. Then I moved to LA, were decent people didn't have guns. I've also worked in Thousand Oaks, where the population is a mix of rural and urban types. There's also a mix in attitudes towards guns. Plenty of people regard laws as suggestions.
