I really can't see either Trump or DeSantis, winning the presidency, as good for our country. Even though most find Trump odious, it is not his vile personality we oppose, but his illiberal and dictatorial ideas. And DeSantis seems to suffer from the same thin skin, where he takes umbrage if anyone thwarts even one piece of his agenda. His new crusade against Disney is a case in point. I really doubt he holds the Constitution is any higher regard, than Trump does. He just isn't as easily distracted, so could produce even more damage. And while Trump seemed driven by enriching himself, like any oligarch, DeSantis seems more into the attainment of power. If he ever got into the Oval Office, even the longest crowbar could not pry him loose.

This thread has quickly devolved, but I agree with the original poster. What this country needs is a new, firmly centrist, party. In the last elections, in my district, I was faced with voting for either a Qanon nut-job, or someone who wants to further raise our astronomically high property taxes, to pay for more benefits for the homeless, and wants to defund the police. We need some politicians who are grounded in reality, who won't pretend the pandemic isn't a thing, don't impose a religious agenda, but can bring down both the crime rate and taxes, and clean up our cities.
