Covid is somewhat different than Influenza. The main difference is, those contagious with flu have symptoms. So they know to stay home, and not infect other. Covid-19 is most transmissible in the five days prior to symptoms so it is much harder to avoid infecting others. And that presymptomatic transmission is the very reason that this virus has become a pandemic.

@AdamSmith-gs2dv So you're protected, I'm protected, she's protected, but children under five have no opportunity to be protected. Until we can protect everyone, we still need to be cautious.

I've been watching him for years too. He's always had a strong antivaccination streak, bragging about refusing influenza vaccines. He even repeated the well debunked lie linking autism with vaccination. Everyone has conformation bias. His is antivaxx.

@theonlyconformist I'm fully vaccinated and boosted. But, until my little grandson can be vaccinated, I'll continue to make sacrifices, to keep him safe. The number of little children being hospitalized with Covid is growing, and half of those children end up with neurological damage. Is his risk of neural damage super high? No, but it's greater than the risk of disability from polio was, before children were vaccinated against that disease.

As Covid-19 infects many species, we aren't eliminating it unless we vaccinate every deer, cat, dog, tiger, lion, primate, possum, ferret, gerbil, mink, mouse, hamster, bat, etc. etc. And we're having a tough enough time, just vaccinating humans.

Imagine if someone, having difficulties breathing due to Covid, came to the hospital, and the admitting desk told them, "I'm sorry, but we're so done with Covid. Here's an oxygen bottle and a canula. Go home."

@ghostsintheforum Nah, Maher is pretty consistent. He's a classic liberal and ridicules the extremists on both sides. But, as a poly sci grad, he is dead ignorant about science and medicine. He's a vegan whose always had a strong anti-vaccination streak. Just like others, in love with their own cleverness, he has strong opinions about subjects he knows nothing about. I doubt he would ever read a book, about virology, and alleviate some of his ignorance. That would require admitting he isn't omniscient. He's funny, but thank goodness he never married or had children. He's far too self centered to have been a good spouse or parent.

@truth4tufftimes705 Everything you wrote is wrong. The virus mutates as it replicates. Since vaccination suppresses viral replication, it also suppresses mutation.

@seanflanagan5356 Really? Did you know the mortality rate and disability rate of polio was much less than Covid-19? And yet, prior to vaccines against polio, every parent was warned to keep their children safe, many were quite terrified of it.

@seanflanagan5356 Antibodies are a terrible correlate of protection. How are your T cells? Did you have them tested. Your immunity from infection is not as good as from the mRNA vaccines. But, if you were to get vaccinated, you'd have the best immunity. Go for it.

@NemesisDawn The vast majority of healthcare workers are vaccinated. Of course, before vaccines, they were unvaccinated. But, those who remain unvaccinated are putting already fragile people at risk.

@JoseGarcia-wj7cp Trump may have bragged about vaccine development, but he was not responsible for it. Most people vaccinated in the US received the Pfizer vaccine. Developed in Germany by a pair of Turkish scientists, the US and Trump had nothing to do with it. The mRNA and viral vector platforms were developed long before Trump entered politics.

I watched the entire show, and was appalled by her self centered behavior. We're all tired of dealing with the virus, but denial never works against infection.
