The reason most of the truly patriotic Americans remained was always the same, we thought we could control his worst impulses. Whether they were right or wrong, I do not envy them having to put up with that ignorant, egotistical, bombastic fool. I bet Esper still has PTSD from his time interacting with that evil man.
