@jack-of-all-trades1234 Just because someone did something amazing almost forty years ago, doesn't mean they haven't gone batty since. Sure Mullis is a biochemist, who using ideas and facts discovered by others, came up with the idea of amplifying a genetic signal. That doesn't mean he knows squat about immunology, virology or epidemiology. It also doesn't mean he is still right in the head. As a child, I met Linus Pauling on a California beach. He was already quite senile, and ranted about how vitamin C could cure everything from the common cold to cancer. He had two Nobel prizes, but was still very demented. I also got to meet Glenn T. Seaborg, another man with two Nobel prizes, when I was an undergrad at UCLA, twenty years before his death. He was charming, brilliant, and still of sound mind. I doubt Seaborg would have debated Pauling, because while Seaborg was sane, Pauling was not.

@brentharrington8134 You realize that this new variant, omicron, evades infection induced immunity, don't you? All those people, who were hospitalized with the omicron variant, in Botswana and South Africa, already had had Covid-19 before.

@AndyWo91 Washington mandated smallpox inoculation, a far more risky procedure than vaccination. Jenner didn't come up with a smallpox vaccine until 1796.

@Joe Daniel Which makes Covid more fatal than polio. Covid also has a 11% disability rate, which is also worse than that of polio. If we felt polio was enough of a public health threat to vaccinate against, why not Covid as well?

@abprepboy33 It is the unvaccinated who are giving rise to these new variants, that are partially evading immunity from both vaccination and previous infection. By being a selfish jerk, you are risking everyone's health.

Hutchinson says that voluntary vaccination, driven by rising death rates, is enough. And yet, in New York, 70% are fully vaccinated, and in Arkansas, only 50% are. It's pretty obvious that New York has done a better job of getting people vaccinated.

Another native Californian here, but one with a degree in microbiology from UCLA. Not only are the vaccines extremely safe and effective, but without realizing it, with the mRNA vaccines, we found the perfect vaccine for a respiratory disease. And, the pandemic is lasting longer than it needs to, because selfish fools are prolonging it, through remaining naive hosts (being unvaccinated).
