A lot of comments by people too lazy to look the paper up. The study was designed to prove the efficacy of a cocoa extract, and the multivitamin (Centrum Silver) was used as a control. So, no, this was not funded by the vitamin manufacturer. If you peruse pubmed, you'll find a lot of papers showing the beneficial effects, on memory and cognition, of several vitamins and minerals, so this is hardly a novel finding. My primary takeaway, from this paper, is that negative results are often more useful than positive ones. They intended to show chocolate was good for cognition, and instead proved the benefits of a simple, inexpensive multivitamin. (I rather wish the results had been otherwise. I'd have loved to tell my children, that the chocolate I eat, is to keep my mind sharp.)
