  1. The thing is, Jewishness comes through the mother's side, while last names come from the father's. He claims his mother is Jewish. It's false, but his last name doesn't determine that. There are plenty of Latino Jewish last names, like Lopez or Gonzalez.

  2. He didn't need to make up a bogus story about his ancestors, and use it to get votes. If he hadn't falsely claimed to be of an oppressed group, nobody would have cared.
