People do that, if you look or sound different. My guy is Israeli, and people asked him all the time where he was from, and he'd say "Oregon", because that's where we lived. They'd persist, "But before that?" and he'd tell them "Maryland". "No, before that?" "California". Then frustrated, they'd ask him where he was born, and only then would he say "Yerushalyim". He thought it funny. To be upset, when a woman in her 90s, keeps asking where you're from, is overly sensitive. England has changed a lot, since her youth. Why not put it down to old age, rather than racism?
