  1. Scott is correct. What really happened is: 1. The press asked Trump why he hadn't called the families of the dead - after several days. 2. Trump said he would soon, and made up a total lie that Obama and Bush never had called families, and that he was the first president to make such calls, and spoke of the death of Kelly's son, which Kelly didn't want done. 3. Since he did this on camera, decent people were upset. 4. He belatedly made the calls, but insulted the wife of the black serviceman where it could be overheard by the Congresswoman who had mentored the dead soldier. 5. The Congresswoman let the world know what had happened. 6. Trump called her a liar. 7. The Congresswoman's story was verified, so we all knew Trump lied, again. 8. Kelly had do damage control.

Being the president's guest at dinner or being told that your dead loved one knew what he was getting into.
