  1. I learned about it from my great aunt and great uncle, who survived the camps. I had asked why they always wore long sleeves, so they showed me the tattoos on their forearms, and told me the tale. That explained why I had no cousins, on one side of my family. My schools didn't cover the story until I was almost an adult, and then in a very cursory fashion.

  2. Gee, DeSantis seems pretty weak in his knowledge of history. Either that, or he's making his own attempt at revisionist history. He really should look up William Wilberforce, whose life work was getting slavery outlawed in England. The English abolition movement was begun, by the Quakers, in 1783. It culminated in Wilberforce's Slavery Abolition Act of 1833, that outlawed slavery throughout the British Empire. Certainly, those in our country, must have thought about, the problems of slavery, when a slave rebellion, in Gloucester County, Virginia, occurred in 1663. But, the US abolitionist movement began in earnest, after all English slaves were already freed. This is not an area where the US has anything to brag about.

  3. No, it wasn't banned in 1807, Wilberforce's Act didn't pass until 1833.
