  1. The only way we can fix the problem of people who are here illegally is by penalizing those who hire illegal workers. Don't blame poor people for exploiting a system. I had a friend who crossed the border illegally. He said he had no problem working as a janitor, used a fake SS card and split whenever he heard identities were being checked. If we had a national photo identity card, he would not have been able to exploit the system. But that will never happen, big companies like hiring illegals, they work cheap and are afraid to complain. Also, wealthy people like hiring cheap nannies, maids and gardeners. Even if a national id cleared up the problem of corporations hiring illegal workers, it would be hard to deal with the problem of illegal "help" who are paid under the table in cash. These workers also have to put up with crummy employers who underpay and threaten the workers with ICE if they dare complain. But the rich people don't face any penalty for hiring them. Take the onus off of the illegal workers and put it on their employers. Institute jail time for those who hire workers without a legal status.
