  1. First, there is a difference between stupidity and ignorance. Second, US schools don't aim to truly educate children. Every since the 1960s, there has been this idea that schools are meant to equalize intelligence. Instead of teaching to the brightest children, and holding back those who cannot master grade level information, they cater to the stupidest children, in a class. This leaves intelligent children bored, and under taught. Also, too many US schools act like this is some giant sociology experiment, whereby they can instill their ideas and beliefs, rather than teach children what they should be learning. This is no different from the missionary schools, that forced christianity down children's throats. And, lastly, the US puts far too much emphasis on useless competitive sports. Rather than teaching skills, that can produce fit citizens, it's all about beating the other team. Status in school, is derived from athletic prowess, rather than scholastic excellence. And colleges waste class space on students, on athletic scholarships, who don't have the intellectual capacity to benefit from college. If all schools, from kindergarten to college, focused only on academic achievement, and college slots were given to the best students, with no legacy spots, racial set-asides or sports scholarships, US education would be less of a joke.
