  1.  @k333rl  Nobody is banning books. They just have opted to not have some books in school libraries. That's how it was in the 1960s and 1970s. If you wanted to read books, that the school board found objectionable, you had to go to the public library or buy them. The books are available.

  2.  @sebcw1204  Farming developed first in Anatolia and Mesopotamia, not Africa. And, the slave trade wasn't responsible for the unrest and violence, that Africa still suffers from today. One could make a fairly good argument for the invasion of Arab Muslims being the actual source of conflict. Look at what has been happening in Somalia, Dafur and the rest of Sudan.

  3.  @sebcw1204  Egypt is in North Africa, but it was never populated by black people. Ancient Egyptians were light skinned, with dark straight hair, almond shaped eyes, and little body hair. They had agriculture early, but not as early as Mesopotamia, Anatolia or China.

  5.  @k333rl  I believe Portugal had more slave boats, than England. But, if we are giving out reparations, how about reparations from Rome, for all the descendants of Jews, transported as slaves to Europe and North Africa? Our period of servitude, and horrible discrimination after freedom, lasted much longer than those of African Americans, and was far more harsh. Or how about reparations to the Irish, for being driven off their land by the British lords, who wanted to raise sheep, not food? Or how about reparations for the Slavs? So many of them were captured and sold into bondage, mostly to Arabs by Turks, that the word 'slave' comes from Slav.

  7. According to Wikipedia "Door handles have been in existence at least since the Neolithic period. Locking or latching mechanisms have existed from about the same time. Key operated door locks have existed at least since Egyptian civilisation. " Applying for the first US patent is not the same as having invented something, especially when that something existed for 5,000 years before the US existed as a country.

  10. Hardly the longest. The servitude of Jews, captured and transported by Rome, was much longer. So was the servitude of Slavs, kidnapped by Turks, and sold as slaves to Arabs.

  11. When retelling history, the "WHOLE truth" is too long to put into a primary school textbook. Thus, some things need to be admitted, for the sake of brevity. That is not lying, it is just being pragmatic. The problem lies in oversimplification, with attitudes like "all black people were victims, and all white people are oppressors". Not only is that utterly false and extremely racist, but does nothing to help people coexist.

  12.  @MichaelWalker-wu2pq  Hardly. Jews are far more concerned with those trying to deny the Holocaust even happened, or falsely assert Jews don't come from Judea, to fret over that one page. At least nobody is trying to claim Africans really came from Europe, and black people never were slaves in the US.
