Last year there was a recall of UK produced infant formula, because pieces of blue plastic were in it. Nestle had to recall its formula, in Germany in 2018, due to metal contamination. Europe is not immune to contaminated infant formula.

@twesj No, the problem is too many mothers not breastfeeding. When I was pregnant, when my daughter was pregnant, we both were bombarded with advertisement, which falsely claimed formula was better. All the growth charts were designed by formula companies, and if your infant isn't corpulent, some act like it is starving. Breastfed babies are healthier, protected by maternal IgA, and are less at risk of being overweight as adults. Infants given formula have a much greater risk of developing type 1 diabetes and allergies.

Both my daughter and I pumped our breast milk, so we could give our children breastmilk and return to work. It was much easier for my daughter, than it was for me, because now law require employers to give mothers a nice, private place to pump. Educated mothers are more likely to make the effort, to do what is best for their children, and breastfeed. Instead of lame excuses, all mothers should be encouraged to breastfeed.

@marshamarshamarsha4567 Many can't? Only between 1% to 3% cannot produce enough milk. Very, very, very few can't. It is a choice, do what is best for your child, or not. I pumped. My older daughter pumped. Breast pumps, today, are so much better than what I had to use, which was like a fish tank pump, with a funnel on it. Now, there are wearable breast pumps, that are much easier on the mother's breasts.

Too many people pretend that breast pumps don't exist. They are so much better, than in the 1980s. There are even wearable breast pumps, and systems that pump right into a bag, that can be used in a holder bottle. You don't even have to transfer your breastmilk to store it, and risk contamination. There is no excuse for giving a baby formula, which has no IgA to protect from disease.

So far, there is no monopoly on mothers' breasts. Why is it that, breastfeeding is more common in blue states? Why do educated mother tend to breastfeed much more? Why are formula manufacturers allowed to bombard expectant mothers with misleading advertisement, to talk them out of breastfeeding?
