  2. Every person, even the most power hungry, has a line they will not cross. McConnell dealt with Trump for four years. And, although he got a lot he wanted, out of the relationship, I doubt he wants to deal with that fragile ego anymore. He probably feels like he's escaped from an abusive relationship, and doesn't want to permanently return to it. He knows, if Trump regains the White House, the people will forever lose it. And that is too much for even McConnell.

  3. Nobody is suggesting McConnell is a saint. Yet, accepting the Big Lie is a bridge too far, even for him, and we should be sanguine about that. He is onboard with changing the Electoral Count Act, to prevent Trump from illegally returning to the White House. Let's take temporary allies when we can. We accepted the staunchly conservative, Cheney, in her bid to discover the truth about the insurrection. I think McConnell realizes, another Trump presidency would mean an end to our democracy, and wants to prevent that. Many other Republicans have completely gone to the dark side.
