  1. Because both parties tend to nominate the craziest, most extreme candidates. An honest, clear headed pol, like Bolton is rejected by the party for asinine reasons, like he has a weird mustache. We got better candidates when the party put them up, without a primary, because the average US voter is callow and shallow.
