  1. Wherever the virus can replicate, new mutations will arise. Only the ones that have mutations on the spike proteins seem to be a problem. The UK, South African and Manaus variants have a better binding affinity with the ACE-2 receptor. And the Manaus variant can evade immunity, evoked through vaccination or previous infection. The same cannot be said about the variants that have arisen in the US, yet.

  4. I don't know about that, Erdogan and Putin did business with him, both in private and governmental affairs. They both seem to be thriving. And notice that Putin is continuing in his Soviet ways. It is not whether the country is led by an authoritarian with a left or right bent, it is that they are led by a corrupt authoritarian, that hurts them.

  5. Perhaps Brazilians have let down their guard, and are partying too much, but the new variant, from Manaus, is more virulent, and immunity to the original strain gives no protection. I hope the vaccine manufacturers are adding its mutations to the next round of vaccines.
