  4. Oh yes, of course they were longing to have their right to express their feelings suppressed. What a relief a totalitarian dictatorship is to those chaffing under its authoritarian oppression. I've read writings of those in favor of slavery, saying how much slavery helped the slaves, because their master provided all their needs. This sounds similar.
