You missed the part where they said crime rates aren't yet as high as in the 80s. It got better, and now is getting bad again. Also, in many parts of the west, cannabis has been legal for about a decade, and we didn't see a rise in crime till after red states started bussing their vagrants here.

Well, there is actually a lot of truth in that. There are a lot more guns on the streets of America, than in other developed countries. US police get murdered, in the performance of their duty more than in those other developed countries. That makes US cops jumpy, and more prone to overreact in situations, especially when dealing with the people who do most of the killing. So, the police were told they were being racist (even though the data does not support that claim) and to step back. Is it any surprise that crime has increased?
