We need to address human overpopulation.

A country cutting down forests, to feed its increasing population is suffering from their own shortsightedness and religion. Forty percent of Pakistani girls are married before age 18, despite a law forbidding this. That leads to overly large families and poverty. Pakistan is a Muslim country. If you look at the countries suffering from food shortage and poverty, most are either majority Muslim or Catholic, religions that forbid birth control. Pakistan's problems will not cease, no matter what the US or Europe do, until all girls are educated, and the status of women is raised.

It is not US policy that is causing Pakistan's problems, it is their population increase. Their population has grown 3.75 times from what it was in 1972, while ours would have shrunk, if not for immigration. The status of Pakistani women needs to be raised, and all the girls educated, to reduce family size and poverty.

They have been relocating, bringing their problems to the rest of the world. What they did to do is limit their family size.

@esobed1 US family size is not overly large, and our population would have shrunk, in the last fifty years, if not for immigration. Meanwhile, the population of Pakistan increased 3.75 times. It is not the US social structure and safety net that needs change. Pakistan needs to raise the status of women, and work to prevent girls marrying before age 18, as India has done. (Look up the Apni Beti Apna Dhan program.) Pakistani girls should be encouraged to stay in school, and get an education. Delaying marriage and reproduction reduces family size and poverty.

The main cause of the degradation of the planet, including climate change, is the excessive human population, consuming resources, cutting down trees, and pushing carbon into the atmosphere. The population of Pakistan is 3.75 times greater than it was fifty years ago. Meanwhile, the US and western Europe are keeping their population in check, and would show no growth, if not for immigration. Pakistan demonizes us, and our western ways, yet quickly puts its hand out, when disaster strikes.

That's because nomads had higher mortality rates. Are you blaming agriculture for this problem, when it really is human overpopulation. The only way to humanely address that problem, is raising the status of women, by educating girls rather than marrying them off at an early age.

The countries that need to be ashamed, are the ones that are not controlling their population. While the recent Roe v Wade reversal, was a big step backwards, Pakistan is a far worse offender. Their population increase 3.75 times in the last fifty years. Why should we carry the burden, for their increased demands on the planet?
