If I hear one more person, who has absolutely no expertise in virology or public health, opine about how a dangerous pandemic should be handled, I'm going to scream. Opinions are like anuses, everyone has one, and they mostly produce feces. Stay in your lane, Smerconish, you're not an expert, and don't have the relevant education to have an informed opinion. Some children are thriving with online education. They can work at their own pace, and are no longer being held back by the dummies in their class. Keeping children at home doesn't just protect adults. It also protects younger siblings, who cannot yet be vaccinated. And the idea that children aren't sickened, by this virus, is so last variant. Pediatric wings of hospitals are filling up with Covid patients. It is a lot more distressing to be ventilated, than to learn at home. So, some kids are falling behind on socialization. That's a lot better than experiencing neural damage from Covid, which will impede that ability to learn anything. This, send kids back to school at any cost, perspective is both selfish and ignorant. At least wait until all children over 6 months can be protected, before forcing children back into a giant petri dish.

Other countries don't piss away massive amounts of money on sports. My children went to a high school, built in 1869. The structure is crumbling, and really needs renovation to make it safe. Yet, when the PTO was raising money, it wasn't to repair the school, but renovate the 'football' field. Universities, in other countries, don't serve as farm teams for professional sports. When I went to UCLA, in the late 1970's, we really needed better computer labs and a molecular biology building. Yet, money raised went for a fancier basketball stadium. If schools stopped wasting money on competitive sports, and spent the money on academics, there would be enough.
