A vaccine, against avian flu and Newcastle's disease exists, but is not used because 1. it prevents antigenic surveillance, and 2. it is rather expensive.

I just checked my local Fred Meyer's (Kroger) and white AA large eggs are $2.29 a dozen. Of course, you pay more for humanely treated chicken eggs.

@HavocParadox Some people don't enjoy the smell of chicken feces. Also, what happens when your hens stop laying? Have you ever had to kill, pluck and butcher a chicken. I have, and have no desire to repeat the experience.

Fred Meyer has them for $2.29/doz, if you're willing to buy willing to buy factory farmed white eggs.

Songbirds, from sparrows to robins to crows, do not carry avian influenza. Unless you have a lot of ducks, cranes, or similar birds, flying over, that is not a problem.

It's not just many hens have died. It's also that feed prices have gone up drastically. There is a war in Ukraine, that has resulted in Ukrainian and Russian grain being unavailable. The US and Canada still produce a lot of grain, but grain shortages result in increased grain prices. If those producing eggs have to pay more, to produce those eggs, egg prices rise.

Where will you keep it? And don't forget that feed costs have also risen.

Is Biden also to blame for the avian influenza, that spread from Europe to Israel? I think you're "sock" in the head.

Feed prices have also increased.

The price of flour has already more than doubled. That's going to have more to do with rising baked goods prices.

But, the fact humanely raised, cage free chickens, have died at the same rate, puts lie to your statement.

$2.29/doz at mine.
