My father and his mother were born in Las Vegas, NM. Dad grew up in Albuquerque. What I remember, from childhood visits to Albuquerque were clear skies and no pollen. I loved taking the tram to the Sandia mountains, and visiting my grandfather's friends on the rez. (A charming old Navaho man told me that my grandfather spoke the best Navaho of any white man, but with a strong German accent.) There is a lot of beauty in New Mexico. The culture of the native people, Hopi, Navaho and Pueblo, is uplifting. But, like any state with a lot of empty land, nut cases come to be out of others' view. We have had a good number of these weird compounds here in Oregon. They have them in Utah and Montana as well. The religion and creed of the nuts change from compound to compound, but they are all dangerous.
