Sadly, other Federal judges, have to abide by such ethics guidelines, but there are none for justices.

No just put a time limit (rather than age limit) like 20 years, but make it easier to remove a justice for obvious corruption. The impeachment process clearly doesn't work.

@martincopeland8153 As we have no landed gentry in the peerage, we also have no peasants here. And it was the Intolerable Acts, not just taxes, that caused the Colonists to Rebel. Perhaps if Georgie didn't suffer from porphyria, he wouldn't have insanely assumed the Colonists would abide him treating the Colonies as his personal piggy bank. We used to have in place good campaign finance laws, that limited how much monetary influence the wealthy could exert. It was Thomas, and others of his ilk, who overturned those good laws.

@martincopeland8153 I realize your grasp of US history is a bit weak. So I will remind you that the Intolerable Acts were not just about overly high taxes. What upset Colonists the most, was the requirement that all imported goods must come from England. That we were not allowed to bring in goods from nearer, and cheaper sources, or go directly to Asia, but everything had to go through England. This made importation overly pricey, and often the British goods were inferior. And, then there was the fact British soldiers could evict people from their homes, and use them as a barracks, without reason or recompense.

What is truly shameful, is that Federal and Appellate Court judges have rules of ethics, by which they must abide. But, no such rules apply to Supreme Court justices.

@martincopeland8153 The fact you refer to the electorate choosing judges, in a democratic fashion, as a "popularity contest" is disturbing. Are you one of those privileged elitists, who think democracy is wrong? Also, federal judges are appointed and approved, by those the people elect to office, which is far more democratic, than having some committee of elitists making the appointments, and therefore, better.

@AkPacerPilot I agree on the first sentence, and disagree with the rest. The difference between a lifetime appointment, and being in an elected position for a long time is, the elected official must be reelected, ie. get the people's approval. Expertise is important. It takes time to learn the ropes, of government. Why keep tossing people out, just when they get good at the job.

@Bitchslapper316 I believe the reference is to his wife's involvement with the January 6 insurrection. He was the only justice to rule against releasing the information, that revealed his wife's numerous phone calls and texts, inciting insurrection. Or have you forgotten her comment about holding Biden, and his family, in barges off Gitmo?

@Malcolmpup Maybe he's not a native English speaker. Double negatives work differently in other languages, like Spanish and Hebrew.

There are for Federal judges, just not for justices.

No, term limits wouldn't change that. What needs changing in the SCOTUS decision in Citizens United. We need to have strict campaign finance rules again. And also put similar rules in place for gifts to justices.

He wasn't ignorant, he's just lying.

@martincopeland8153 Did they come before or after George III, to whom he was referring?

@slipperywhenwet668 Perhaps you should, she pointed out your obvious error.
