  1. California gets a heavy rain year, about every fifty years. The one in 1973 was a little worse than this, although a lot fewer people lived there then. I was in junior high, in SLO, and had to swim home, although a cop in a rowboat, gave me ride where the water was really deep.

  2. I grew up in California. It has always had seasons, the rainy season, when the hills are green, and the dry season, which lasts most of the year. People from back east told me they felt sorry for me, because I never got to go sledding. They didn't realize we had a great time, during the dry season, using cardboard boxes to sled down the hills covered with slippery dry grass.

  4. 1973 was the last time the state was so flooded, not 1983. I was working in Ventura, living in Van Nuys, in 1983, and there was nothing like this. Cars didn't float out to sea, in 1983, like in 1973. And back then, the wildfire season was only when the Santa Anas blew, September and October, not year round, like now. So, no, not a cycle, a change.

  10. If you've only lived in California 25 years, you weren't around for the last flood, like this one. That was in 1973. And you got there after climate change had already extended the wildfire season, from just September and October, to year round. It didn't use to be this bad.

  12. Funny, my late mom put solar panels, on her central California home about 25 years ago. Then she bought an EV, and never had to buy gas again. Hers was an all electric home, and her panels met all her needs, for home and car, and she still sold electricity to PG&E.
