  1. I did the same, and donated the extra milk I pumped. If all mothers who could produce milk, did, there wouldn't be any problem.

  2.  @gwenverde7970  So it has to be fed by tube. The mother could still have pumped, and used breastmilk to feed it. My daughter's first son didn't latch well, so she pumped, and put her milk in a bottle, for him. And mothers breastfed their children, for as long as there have been humans. Nobody, in my family, ever used formula, because we all came from medical and science backgrounds. We knew that breastmilk is the best food for an infant.

  3. I nursed my first child till she was almost two, and my second child until she almost four. If her daughter is so sensitive, that she can't eat normal food, why did this woman let her milk dry up? And why showcase such a rare problem. The truth is, if every mother who could breastfeed, did breastfeed, there would be no shortage. I pumped, so I could return to work, so did my daughter, because we are both good mothers. If this woman didn't care enough for her daughter, to keep her milk going, why should we?

  7.  @gwenverde7970  That's complete bull. I had a lot of breastfeeding friends, back in the 1980s, and none of us ever used formula. Only about 1% of mothers can't produce enough milk. There is no need to supplement with formula. I never did. My daughter never did. My mother never did. Nor my grandmothers.

  8. My daughter has a two month old. She never noticed the formula shortage, because she is a good mother, and breastfeeds.

  9. Why isn't a law being passed, to encourage mothers to breastfeed? Formula is a terrible substitute, for what we can make in our own bodies. Poor mothers should be given lactation assistance and breast pumps, not formula.
