  1. At first I thought having all that cash and gold was damning. But, I had a couple of relatives, who survived the Nazi death camps (although all their children had been murdered), and they always kept a go-bag of gold and diamonds, just in case. I've known a lot of people, whose families lost everything in the Great Depression, due to FDR's bank holidays. And they trusted their mattress more than banks. If you'd lived in Castro's Cuba, you might keep a stash of gold too.
