@DarkKnight-yz2wg All the Democrats keep voting for Jeffries. That gives him 212 votes. McCarthy has been receiving 198 to 205 votes, and got 203 in the last vote. In other words, because so many Republicans are being complete dicks, Jeffries has gotten more votes than McCarthy in every round. There is no rule requiring the Speaker be from the majority party. The Speaker need not even be a member of the House.

Are you aware the first two are Senators, so not germane to the Speakership discussion?

@madisongittens4007 The alternative is to hold a nice big super spreader event, and only invite the MAGA crowd. Perhaps enough far left Republicans will become to ill, to show up, and the number of votes needed will change.

@blessingjohnchelliah4317 The Constitution merely states the House will make its own rules, by which to elect a Speaker. Problem is, the rules committee cannot meet until a Speaker is in place.

You know McCarthy never said that. When you put out a completely false attribution, like that, you make a lie out of everything else you say. Republicans actually say enough garbage, that you could quote, without fabricating a lie, and making yourself look even more untruthful.

@mikew6060 The House rules say there must be a simple majority of Representatives present, to elect a Speaker. If all show up, and none abstain, that means it take 218. Jeffries keeps getting all 212 Democratic votes. That means if all the Democrats show up and vote as they have, and just twelve Republicans either don't show, or abstain, Jeffries is Speaker.

@DarkKnight-yz2wg If anyone's tone has been condescending, it has been yours. Even a child knows 212 is a greater number than 203. And as to your MA from an unnamed school, I know three men, with PhDs in mathematics, who took an economy course, to get an easy A, and dropped the class when they realized economists torture math, and pervert it from its simple truth. You have to prove a lemma, before you can use it, but economists just suppose, and act like it's fact. So, if your degree is in finance, it is understandable that simple math escapes you.
