Cricket Nation I went to Hiroshima in 1968, where an older Japanese gentleman told me that the bombs actually saved lives, Hirohito was not going to surrender, and many Japanese people were dying every day from US bombs, disease and starvation. The atomic bomb made him realize he could never beat the Americans, so he finally surrendered. After WWII, the US did something no country had ever done before, we rebuilt the nations we had conquered, rather than extract their resources. Look at the economic strength of Japan and Germany today, and tell me how terrible we are.

@StephenKershaw1 Really? I would say the mentality, of the Saudi royal family, is more like that of the Plantagenet dynasty of England. The royal family discovered that Khasoghi was helping fund a group, dedicated to removing the royal family, by any means. What would any of the King Henrys have done in such a situation? If you don't know of the ruthlessness of the Plantagenets, read one of the many Shakespeare plays about them, or think of the behavior of the high born in The Game of Thrones which was inspired by them.

No, we live in a world where oil is power.

Do you think European kings, in the days they had absolute power, were pussycats? The most brutal warlord always wins.
