@jefferee2002 It was even worse in 1982. But then, we were getting good returns on our savings accounts and certificates of deposit. Higher interest rates cut both ways.

You do realize that Yellen does not control the Fed, don't you? She is Sec. of the Treasury. Also, even if interest rates go up to 7%, it will only affect the little guy when he takes out a mortgage. It is big business who is complaining. Right now, interest rates are ridiculously low.

@tsarina24honolulu87 Actually, if you had ever read about her, she is very much concerned with how economics affect everyday Americans.

He can't explain why he doesn't like Yellen, and blames her for shortfalls due to Trump's profligate spending and decisions made by the Fed. It seems he really dislikes her for being the first female Sec. of Treasury, and the most competent one to date. Once again, misogyny raises its ugly head.

Then why did a majority of companies post record losses last quarter? That is why the stock market tanked. I realize it is easy to blame everything on a corporate boogie man, without looking at the actual facts. I'm very annoyed with how companies only care about short term gains, not investing in their employees and country. But, I'm not so swayed by my emotions to ignore actual facts. Corporate profit margins were at their lowest point in 25 years.

MMT also predicted that Covid relief payments wouldn't drive inflation. Why continue to put credence in a well disproven theory?

You realize that he's a governor, not a congressman.

@eskiltester3913 Nah, although Trump was horrible at almost everything, this is not solely his fault. Sure, if he'd handled the pandemic better, we might have fared more like Australia. But, this is a world wide problem, hitting countries that handled the pandemic well, as well as poorly.

@riparianlife97701 But they aren't. That is the reason the stock market tanked.

@franklin9400 No. While Democratic leaders did value human life more highly than profits, the simple truth is it cost more to treat people than to prevent infection.
