  1.  @marisaJ1  I think you are wrong about the intentions. But, the US always thinks that other people will thrive under democracy, and learn to love it. That does not occur in tribal societies. The loyalties are to the clan, not the nation. We used that to our advantage in colonizing our own country. Think how different history would have been, if all the First Nations had banded together against Europeans, as soon as they set foot in the New World. Instead, the French and English armed allied tribes, to fight against each other. Why we think other countries, with tribal societies, will be any different from Native Americans is beyond me.

  3.  @Junksaint  The book already exists, How Democracies Die . It is an eye opening, but depressing, read. And, after years of extolling the virtues of American Democracy, we almost lost ours.

  4. Are the students girls? They'll kidnap enough schoolgirls, that parents will not let their daughters get educated. And that is exactly the result many of these thugs are aiming for.

  7. Let's just suppose that a foreign military came to their aid. How would they find the kidnapped youths? Remember, kidnapping is a cottage industry, and many of the locals benefit monetarily. How would they move troops to where they are being held? Remember, there are no major highways, only dirt roads, throughout much of the country. How would they know who is a kidnapper, and who is a local coerced into cooperation? Did the US succeed in Iraq or Vietnam? Think of the number of times that an insurgent guerilla force has held out against better equipped foreign troops, and reconsider you position.

  9. Let's suppose the entire populace was armed. So the kidnappers enter the school, a blood bath occurs, the students are all shot in the crossfire, along with many of the kidnappers and local defenders. Yes, sure that is a fantastic outcome. Also, if the populace were armed, it would be like the Hatfields and the McCoys, all the time.
