There are different levels and ways of forgiving. Moving on with your life is one way. I wonder what the Hutu thought when she said that to him. Did he think she was just stupid, or did he feel shame and remorse? I have a feeling some people feel no shame. You can forgive them all you want, but they will still be killers and want to kill you and do you in any way they can. So then what does forgiving them mean, treating them like anyone else and accepting them as they are, or shunning them and hoping they get their due one day? I really think forgiving can go way too far and retraumatize the victims where they have no sense of standing up for themselves. They are putting themselves at the mercy of dangerous killers. It sometimes disgusts me how easily people forgive and forget. The worst killers will claim innocence until their last breath and take any acceptance of them as acquiescence to whatever they want to do. You have to recognize some people for the dogs they really are and have nothing to do with them. The stronger have to find ways to stop them.
