Since they won't see the money from this wise guy, what matters is the precedent it will set. If someone says they were astronomically wronged by an action taken against a family member and are allowed to sue in a corresponding amount, people might try to sue for less serious crimes. This is essentially enslaving someone for life by taking any money they could possibly earn. Are they going to get half his prison earnings for life? How do they even get money from a guy like this?
