Let's say the neighbors really hurt his feelings. The best thing for them to do would be to say they are sorry, he can put up the nice display again, and they won't complain. Then leave him alone. Don't look at him, bring him pies or anything else. I think it is a fight over who controls the neighborhood. Bill Ansell is saying he refuses to be controlled. The best thing they can do is just give up and mind their own business. Since they are all married couples, maybe they feel it is their job to run a single elderly man out of a family neighborhood.
