When you only have the same age people around, you have no mitigating influences. Like a college dorm, it can be full of wild parties and drinking. I guess an old age place would be full of sick people complaining. Then a bunch of children left alone would be like Lord of the Flies or some chaos bullying situation. Too many yuppies is like a judgmental clique where no one else is really wanted. People need the checks and balances of other people and their opinions instead of just having one point of view foisted on them. It isn't good for your mental health to only see and hear from people like yourself. We learn from the old and are helped and inspired by the young. If everyone is like you, there is a lot of competition to be noticed and stand out. I think it is like living in an apartment but that you are even more committed to. You really don't have much more freedom buying into an elder community with an HOA.
