  1. You should stand up for yourself. The mom was probably a narcissist. She was acting very entitled and belligerent. You don't just assume that you can infringe on someone else's space. The children were old enough to take care of themselves without a mother watching them the whole time. I know about the huff and puff thing. You can get that a lot on supermarket checkout lines. Any delay or disapproval of your payment method and the person behind you is taking it as a personal issue. They will even inch a cart up almost hitting you or throw their things on the belt so fast there is no room for you own things and you have to hand them one by one to the cashier.
