  1. He might be captured by sprits in the abandoned temple that want to control him. He is socially awkward because he doesn't have people to talk to regularly. The spirits probably want to keep him isolated and alone. He should stop hanging around in there. I think his friends get cold because they don't feel like he is doing anything with his life and don't want it to rub off on them. Usually, women want a man who is doing something productive with himself not taking whatever scraps the neighbors want to give him. He is wasting money on cigarettes looking for 2 or 3 packs. That is like his main focus.
