Your credit will be shot even if the nonpayment isn't on your report. They will still see your history and lack of a credit score. I know a lady who ran up credit cards and then just declared bankruptcy. It has been over seven years and she still can't put her name on a deed for a house. I don't think lenders are going to trust you with any more credit after that. You have to start with high interest store credit or secured debit cards or something. It will take years if at all to fix that. In the meantime, you won't be able to rent or buy property with a bad credit history. You could wind up homeless if you lose where you are staying.

@ComicLover-oj5sv Well maybe it depends on how and why they went bankrupt such as a sudden medical emergency rather than running up bills and never paying for years.
