I think online is at least some social interaction. Without that many people would have nothing. I don't think the mode of interaction is the problem. I think that people are just in their own worlds and not open to new ideas and new people, so they can't interact well in a public, mixed environment. They are too concerned with what other people are doing and thinking to just relax and enjoy meeting new people.

People aren't as social. The mall was a big social scene. Now people are so snarky and spiteful, most of the rest don't want to bother with their company. They want to drive up to the door and shop and leave. Miami is probably much more of a social culture than the Midwest. There is also only so much junk you can tolerate around your house. So much is already in circulation, you can get everything you need at a yard sale or secondhand store. Malls were a cultural icon of the seventies/eighties/nineties. Now there is easy online retail at places like Amazon with free shipping, free returns, helpful reviews, etc. It is less of a hassle to just go online. The whole fun aspect of the mall experience is just gone. It isn't new and unique any longer. They are stuffy and people are worried about germs like COVID or Bird Flu or whatever someone has. They should try lifting off the tops and making them open air again.
