  1. People don't need luxury amenities. How many people actually use them when the community has its own amenities? I think they are there as a screening process to keep the poorer people out of housing. Even if a building has a standard amenity like a laundry room, half the people take their laundry out to do it elsewhere anyway. If your building has nice landscaped grounds, most of the people won't walk around or sit outside there anyway. Now they come up with dog spas, pool and cookout complexes, and all this other stuff that only a small number of people really want. Pool was the luxury standard, but they are going way beyond that now with these party rooms and conference rooms, etc. They throw in a few token affordable units so that all your neighbors struggling to pay rent resent you, and they say they are taking care of everyone's housing needs. We need more basic, no frills housing that just supplies what you need to survive at a subsistence level income.
