  1. I think they would just rather live in a camper but want to be dramatic and have affordability be the excuse for being different. There is no reason to spend so much on food. In many ways you can save on food if you have your own house and can buy on sale and store things in a pantry then cook for yourself. I think a lot of times Americans want to act like they are suffering and making sacrifices when really, they are just doing exactly what they want as in enjoying life camping. You can definitely afford to live in a house in NJ with that income.
