Go to a DMV in NJ. You will leave with PTSD and an inferiority complex.

You hare half right. NJ is way more complex and hard to understand than you can imagine. Dicks doesn't cover the stuck up back stabbing people of NJ. It is more like narcissists. This state is evil. Get a copy of Weird NJ, there is like so much demonic stuff going on here. I would say the roads are pretty good. The Pulaski Skyway is scary at first but you get used to it. The property taxes are even worse than the income taxes. They are a big reason why people move out of the state, especially the retired people. It has the best schools in the country, so you have very educated, very dirty sneaky people here. The Super Fund sites aren't that bad. I have had picnics near them and you would never know. The ocean is like a sewage bath. You come out smelling like you fell in a toilet and there are laundry suds piled up where there is supposed to be foam in rivers and oceans or even storm drains. I could go on an on about this nightmare of a state.

It used to say NJ is the safest state on the back of the inspection stickers. That was supposedly due to the speed limit being 55 mph. But did that change now with the advent of cell phones? You do see a lot of bad drivers texting and chatting on the phone while driving.

With the cities, there are good areas and bad areas. Like the Oranges, South Orange is kind of expensive, West Orange is middle class, and then Orange and East Orange are a little rougher but doable. Newark has nice areas to it like the PAC and some new theater and the biggest cherry blossom park in the country, Branch Brook Park. If you live in NJ, you kind of learn how to deal with different places and extract the best from them. It is kind of funny though when other people are terrified in NJ. It makes the NJ people feel tougher. That must be the pride you are encountering.
