What did they buy into if they are still paying such high rent and maintenance costs? Sounds like a rip-off senior scam to me. Those old people shouldn't have to leave. It is unethical what is happening. They need to pool up for a good lawyer to sue the company for extortion or fraud or something. You can't just make a home unaffordable. They are not using $5000 in utilities per month. What if some of them do wind up on the street or sucked into abusive care homes that are for profit and against the proper care of seniors? That is a lot of stress to make an elderly person move. I don't think they can adapt and survive like a younger person. Once you uproot them from where they are comfortable, they withdraw into a shell and wither away. If they paid hundreds of thousands up front, it sounds like they bought the townhomes. How can someone come along and charge them expenses so high it runs them out?
