  1. They were ignorant psychologists. Children learn language in fits and spurts. They might learn and then regress only to come back stronger. They lost patience with her when she wasn't making them look like geniuses, and let the abusive mother take her and then abusive foster homes and then a psych institute where she is miserable and regressing.
