At the age of ten or fourth and fifth grade is when children so inclined start acting out and picking on other children. This is when bullying and meanness kind of take hold as a social norm. These children were not in stable homes or under supervision at home or even school. Warning signs of severe disturbance were ignored or met with expulsion. This horrible act could have been a subconscious cry for some sort of attention or acknowledgment. It isn't only the children's fault, it is the fault of the society that cornered their impulsive energies in this manner. I have seen children be very violent to each other; I am sure we all have. These boys were sort of societal outliers who managed to go way beyond any social constraints. I think the psychiatrists took them seriously and worked with them for 8-10 years of incarceration. I don't think it is for society to try to destroy them now. I am sure they will get their recompense without others' judging them. They were still children, however horrible and bad. If they have grown and know better now, then leave them to their own destinies.
