47:40 Germany and France jumped that idea, dragging it off into the Surcouf and the semi-mythical Typ112 U-kreyer designs. The USN had Narwal, Argonaut, and Nautilus; her weirdly similar cousins. The idea follows from the same thinking that brought us torpedo tubes on battleships. This deviant engineering impetus contrarily sought to mount battleship* guns on submarines. I find myself surprised that Japan did not recreate Akagi in a suitable submersible format. Imagine an Ise/Hyuga-type refit to an I-400 class boat. A pair of 12" naval rifles aft, full size torpedoes at both ends, and a shotai of Claude derived floatplanes for spice up forward. About making the paired 5.25" guns DP: The idea was sound, as a captain spends a lot of time on the surface fretting while his engineer puts a blown engine back together. Those cannon would give the captain something to play with, while he waits. And you never know: he might get to sink a train. *Later cruiser/destroyer guns.
