"Two barrels good! Four barrels better!" After the war the Soviets went through a phase where they mounted quad 45mm and 57mm on their ships.

@trevor311264 Spoken like a true Vickers man. Bully!

Germany had a navalised 12.8cm FlaK40/L56. Hard hitting and long range.

Japan's 25mm was a direct evolution of the Hotchkiss gun, already laughed at by everyone on earth other than German Armored Recon units* in France in May 1940. The problem was the gun was too light for the French Armee and too heavy for the IJN. Mot to mention the IJN's triple mount was worse than the Federal navy's Ericsson Monitors' turret. *It was the Main Armament of the large production run (400-500) Panhard P-178 Armored car. Knocked out plenty of PSW 222, you bet!

Drach; in the 5"/38cal pic, are those Hedgehog Spigot Mortars just aft on either side? I had read that some DDs split theirs (18 spigots each) P/S. And a lament. After your explanation, I am still in the dark as to why anyone thought Squid was a step forward from Hedgehog. Was't the whole concept to move away from depth charges so the SoNAR operators could maintain contact through the run? Squid took us back to the depth charge. Once more, SoNARmen would not know if the enemy were hit or not. Hedgehog told you when it got a hit. Squid did not.
