Yeah. Ryan and Drach are two of my favorites . . . there's a Doctor Clarke in there somewhere and I am also a fan of Navyreviewer.

I'll see your Iowa and Hood and raise you Alaska, Dunkerque, and Scharnhorst. Without a comprehensive set of paradigms (impossible through all the historical political and procurement magery/permutations of the times involved) it's difficult to compare. Here are my off the wall declensions: A) Battleship- the cutting edge of your surface fleet's naval blade. Best armor vs best guns vs best (possible) mobility. B) Battlecruiser-a naval warship carrying battleship SCALE armament, but NOT intended to be sent up against battleships*. Otherwise indistinguishable from "Cruiser Killer". Which adds Panzerschiffe to the mix. Nix on the Onitor-May escape clause. No Roberts class for you! C) Cruiser - anything that can kick a destroyer's ass in a fight, outrun it in a seaway, and possessing sufficient endurance to project the flag across an ocean (and most of the way back). Addenda: HMS Campbelltown is NOT a Battlecruiser! Neither is the USS Johnston. But she fought like one. *Always always some idiot (or historical vagary) puts them in the line . . . the one place they must not go. That's not my fault. My declensions stand.
